The Challenge & Process

I had the opportunity to collaborate with a classmate who assumed the role of an art director for our project. I was tasked with creating an event poster for Bilston Creek Farm for a fictional pumpkin picking, farmers market event, drawing inspiration from the rustic and organic aesthetic. My art director wanted the poster to have a rustic feel with an organic flow, which has pushed me to think differently about my approach to design.

I conducted research to gather insights into the event. The event itself is fictional, so I sought similar real-world events and analyzed their aesthetics, and language. The goal was to identify patterns and elements that resonated with the intended audience, while considering the accessibility and user needs of my persona.

Based on my research and the persona's characteristics, I brainstormed and sketched three different layouts for the poster.

These layouts incorporated design principles outlined in "Art Direction for the Web" and were created with careful consideration of grid systems and visual aesthetics.

In a small group setting, I presented my persona and the event details to my peers, explaining my ideas and design choices. I was open to feedback and collaboration, addressing any challenges that arose during the process and seeking to elevate the designs to the next level through the application of art direction.

The objective of this project was not only to create an attractive poster but also to establish a meaningful connection with the audience, effectively conveying the essence of the Pumpkin Picking Event at Bilston Creek Farm.
